Regional Center for Training and Monitoring of the Environmental Impact of Electrical Installations

Through the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI CBC Programme 2014-2020, the Faculty of Engineering within the North University Centre of Baia Mare, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, won the project “Regional Center for Training and Monitoring of the Environmental Impact of Electrical Installations”– CRIMIGE, No. HUSKROUA/1702/6.1/0022. The partner university is Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Ukraine. Through this project we set out to meet the current requirements in the field of electricity and environmental protection as best we can.

The project will be carried out over the time span of two years, from March 2020 to February 2022. During this period our universities will carry out a vast assessment programme of the environmental impact of the production, transmission, distribution, and use of electricity within the cross-border area. Measurements within the economic interest areas, as well as protected natural areas, are also to be carried out. Common elements of, as well as differences between the Ukrainian and Romanian assessment systems will be identified. Studies regarding the intensity of electro-magnetic fields, noise, and vibrations of power stations are also planned to be carried out. Over 120 students are meant to be trained in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment bought through the project, and cooperation with public and private organizations interested in the environmental impact of the power system will be initiated.

Cross-border Network of Energy Sustainable Universities

The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, North University Centre of Baia Mare, as Partner, is implementing the Project “Cross-border Network of Energy Sustainable Universities”. The project is cofinanced by the European Union through the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI CBC Programme 2014-2020, Priority 1: “Sustainable use of the environment in the cross-border area – preservation of natural resources, actions to reduce GHG emissions and pollution of rivers”. The beneficiary and leader of the project is the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Ukraine, and beside our university, the following participate as partners: the Technical University of Košice, Slovakia, and the University of Miskolc, Hungary. The project implementation period is 1 Oct. 2019 – 31 Sept. 2021, with a total budget of 326,448 Euro (1,551,118 Ron).

The project will result in pilot control systems with IT solutions for online monitoring of the energy consumption and losses within the facilities of the partner universities. Moreover, a common educational programme regarding the management of energy in public institution will be developed. The project partners will develop strategies for the reduction of energy consumption for each university, and based on the acquired expertise, they will develop an energy management system for their own university in correlation with the requirements of the ISO 50001 Energy Management.
