The representatives of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca attended the working meeting of the European University of Technology EUt+ consortium in Limassol, Cyprus

During the period of 20-24 September 2021, over 100 representatives of the 8 partner universities members of EUt+ reunited in Limassol, Cyprus, in the most extensive face-to-face meetings since the project’s onset. The delegation of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN) was lead by Rector Prof. Vasile Țopa, PhD, Eng. and included Prof. Cristina Câmpian, PhD, Eng., TUCN’s EUt+ project coordinator and director of the Erasmus+ Department, Prof. Dan Mândru, PhD, Eng., Vice-Rector for International Relations, together with representatives of work packages in the projects and students’ representatives. The guests of this meeting were Themis Christophidou – Director-General for Education, Youth, Sport, Culture at the European Commission and Annita Dimitriou – the President of the Chamber of Deputies in Cyprus.

The event was hosted by the University of Technology in Cyprus, and it implied a week of workshops, public debates, signed agreements and the launch of the EUt+ website. In addition to the meetings of the governing board, the program focused on the meetings of the work packages representatives, centred mainly on education, mobility, partnerships and communication. This major reunion was an occasion of significant progress for the activities set out in the EUt+ project. Following the discussions and debates, the 8 rectors and presidents of the EUt+ member universities signed 4 official agreements: setting up ITCO – International Teams Coordination, setting up a joint Erasmus Office, a Student Committee and the Memorandum for the setting up of EUt+ engineering programs (European Degree), undergraduate program and MBA.

At the level of work packages, the partners of the alliance defined a common pathway for the programs of study to obtain a European diploma in engineering (undergraduate level and MBA) and named them EUt+ engineering programs. The 8 universities agreed upon 3 clusters for the undergraduate program and MBA, focusing on Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Telecommunications. EUt+ will implement many mobilities for students, teaching staff, and auxiliary staff to create cohesion and accelerate interuniversity exchanges. In this respect, 2 agreements have been signed to accelerate student mobilities, one of the critical pillars of the consortium. In order to support students’ integration in each campus, the International Teams Coordination Bureau was set up. It will ensure services between the campuses and create courses and applications to support multilingual and cultural communication.

The meetings and discussions of the students’ representatives concluded with setting up a Students’ Committee with 16 members (2 members from each university), which will be in permanent contact with the alliance’s governing board. The event’s agenda included 2 public debates – EUt+ – A beacon of equal opportunities for all and EUt+ – Boosting European Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The interaction between the representatives of the 8 universities, the activities and work groups during this working meeting and the results obtained, encouraged the internal commitment and accelerated the integration process within the EUt+ alliance.

By adhering to the European University of Technology alliance, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca demonstrated abilities highlighted and amplified in the following years. The openness towards the European space for education and research is a certainty with results experienced by all the academic community members.
