The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca

was awarded The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, being classified among the European educational community

Following the evaluation made by the European Commission, The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN) was awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021 – 2027 quality certificate. The official recognition is the result of the application submitted by TUCN in May 2020, followed by the international assessment by the EC.

The Erasmus Charter entitles our university to participate in specific Erasmus projects and guarantees that we have the capacity to receive and send students in Erasmus mobilities recognized in other universities within and outside the European Union (EU).

The ERASMUS program – European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students, was proposed by the European Commission in 1986, and was originally designed as a test for student exchanges. The name of the program was given after the philosopher, Catholic theologian and humanist Erasmus (Desiderius) of Rotterdam (1465-1536), who travelled to several European countries to study, being considered the precursor of university mobility grants.

Launched at the beginning under the name SOCRATES, the program has been active in Romania since 1998, as a priority of the integration strategy in the European Union (EU), to support the educational reform. The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca is eligible and participates in the European educational program SOCRATES / ERASMUS since the academic year 1998-1999, having the ERASMUS identification code: RO CLUJNAP0S.

The general framework of all activities in the SOCRATES / ERASMUS program of TUCN is represented by the Institutional Contract SOCRATES-ERASMUS. This contract is concluded between UTCN and the European Commission for each academic year.

For the implementation of the program within our university, the SOCRATES-ERASMUS University Commission has been established since 1997, as an operational body with responsibilities determined at institutional level and then, the SOCRATES-ERASMUS Office, with tasks at the level of departments / faculties, through the delegated coordinators.

In November 1997, TUCN submitted its first application for a SOCRATES / ERASMUS Institutional Contract for the 1998-1999 academic year. Following the evaluation, the European Commission accepted this application and concluded the first SOCRATES / ERASMUS Institutional Contract with TUCN. In the following years, other institutional contracts were concluded. Thus, our university was included in the European mobility circuit. Since 1998, over 600 TUCN students and a number of teachers have benefited from ERASMUS mobility programs. The activities carried out under this program are currently coordinated by the ERASMUS + Office.
